MNPA Mushroom Seminar

Mississippi Natural Products located in New Hebron, Mississippi will offer its next Shiitake Mushroom Production seminar on October 11, 2010. This seminar is offered to individuals and small farmers interested in adding mushroom production to their existing crops. The seminar will encompass the following:

Classroom lecture on the production of Shiitake mushroom from the manufacturing of substrate blocks, their inoculation, incubation and destination to the farmer. The farmer’s grow room set up, growing procedures, storage and transportation of mushrooms. The receiving and grading of the mushrooms at MNPA, as well as the marketing and distribution of the end product.

Hands on training in our manufacturing environment that will provide the farmer with in depth knowledge concerning the production of sterile medium for mycelium growth. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a hands on inoculation of the substrate block in our sterile lab. They will also observe the cloning of a Shiitake mushroom and the production of grain spawn.

Participation in our packaging and grading department will provide attendees with marketing knowledge of the various grades of mushrooms. Packaging tips to increase shelf life of Shiitakes and dehydration procedures will be covered.

Actual training in MNPA grow room to learn harvesting techniques and handling of substrate blocks in preparation for subsequent harvest.

Visit to actual Grower’s location to observe full scale operation of mushroom farm, set up of grow rooms, processing and storage.

Seminar attendees will be offered the opportunity to photograph grow room set up. They will also be provided notes on seminar lecture. Substrate blocks as well as sawdust spawn will be available for purchase.

Seminar attendees will be provided with sourcing contacts for supplies and materials used in the production, harvesting and packaging of Shiitake mushrooms.

Other species of mushrooms capable of growing on our substrate blocks will also be briefly discussed.

Nonrefundable deposit of $75 is required 30 days before seminar date. If space is available within 30 days of seminar, payment in full is required.
